Cheese straws available to bake at home
We’ve been very lucky recently to get some great press coverage for an up and coming release on our online store, including The York Press, HU17.net, and even Hebrides News Today. If you took a look at those links, you might have guessed what that new release is: yes, one of our most popular and long-lived products, the cheese straw will be available for purchase from our Thomas the Baker online store! From tomorrow evening (Friday 13th – hope that’s not auspicious!), the cheese straws will be available to buy frozen from the website to bake at home. They will come with instructions on how to bake them to perfection yourself, and we’re treating our lovely blog readers to 10% off purchases of cheese straws! All you need to do is register at the website, add the cheese straws to your basket, and enter Straws10 at the checkout.
The cheese straws have taken a somewhat unusual route to reach the online store however, via the Outer Hebrides of Scotland! Tony Henk and his wife Sylvia visited his sister-in-law in Haxby, having come all the way from the Isle of Lewis, and tried one of our infamous cheese straws – and he’s never looked back. Ever since, she has delivered a batch of cheese straws to him twice a year, but Tony decided to get in touch and see if there was an easier way to get hold of his favourite product. We were only too happy to accommodate his wish, and Tony has since become our ‘Official Cheese Straw Tester’, checking how long it takes for cheese straws to make the 500 mile journey to his home and the condition in which they arrive. So if it wasn’t for Tony, you wouldn’t be able to order our Frozen Bake At Home range of cheese straws.
Tony has kept in contact, providing details of how well the baking instructions fare and whether it’s all up to his usual explanations. And earlier this year, he and his wife made the trip themselves to our bakery in Helmsley to meet the people who had made it possible for him to get his favourite treat despite living hundreds of miles away. Above Chris Chapman, Quality Assurance Manager, shows him how the cheese straws are produced on a tour of the bakery.
Tony insists that his favourite way to eat a cheese straw is with a good spoonful of peanut butter! We’d like to know whether you have any surprising combinations that you like to eat with your cheese straws too, why not let us know in the comments below. If you’ve never had the pleasure of trying one, make sure to visit our online store from tomorrow evening and use the discount code Straws10 for 10% off cheese straws. In my opinion, the best thing about the Frozen Bake At Home range is that you can eat your cheese straws fresh out of the oven any time you like to share with your friends.
