Each year, here at Thomas the Baker we choose a different charity to support. Last year, we raised money for the Alzheimer’s Society (and will soon be able to announce the final figure for the year at the end of April) with campaigns such as our Forget Me Not cupcakes, collections in store and more. You can see some more examples of our previous charity work here and here. We’re proud to announce that this year, Thomas the Baker have chosen to support Kidney Research UK, and for a number of very good reasons, one of which is very close to our hearts. Read on to find out why, with a few facts and a story from someone who has been directly affected by the work they do: Kidney Research UK are a much smaller charity than those we have supported in the past, and as such, don’t get nearly as much publicity. They are thrilled that we’ll be supporting…

For this week, and this week only, we’ll be offering these fantastic Yorkshire Day cupcakes, decorated with the infamous emblem of Yorkshire: the White Rose of Yorkshire. As a Yorkshire born and “bread” company (pardon the pun!), we’re proud of our heritage, so we’re sending out these yummy cupcakes to all our stores on Tuesday 1st August to celebrate Yorkshire Day – and here are 3 reasons why we think you should head to your nearest Thomas the Baker store to pick one (or more!) up to try them: 1. To support our chosen charity for the year: Alzheimer’s Society Each year we choose a charity that’s close to our hearts to support. It was announced in the press in June that we’d raised over £10,000 during the past year for the British Heart Foundation. For 2017/18, we’ve chosen the Alzheimer’s Society. The goal is to for our fundraising activities to help to fund research into Alzheimer’s and dementia, to support those living with…
Every year here at Thomas the Baker we choose a different charity to support. In the past, these charities have included Marie Curie, Macmillan, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and more – you can find out more about each of these here. We work with charities in a vast range of ways, from fundraising events such as sponsored walks, food donations to local events and we’re more than happy to consider individual sponsorship requests too. For 2017/18, our chosen charity is Alzheimer’s Society, the UK’s leading dementia charity. During this time, our 34 stores across Yorkshire and the North East will be collecting donations and members of staff across the whole business will be participating in events such as a local Memory Walk – you can find one close to you here if you’re interested in taking part too. Alzheimer’s Society have also launched a initiative to get everyone involved in fundraising in an easy and positively fun way – Cupcake Day! This…
About a month ago, we mentioned that our Market Street shop in York would be having an Open Day to allow customers to get to know the team at the shop a bit more, to take part in a few competitions, to sample a few goodies, see our new product ranges and meet Gingy the Gingerbread Man. The Open Day took place on the 30th May and we had a fantastic time. Andy Bartlett and Steve Cockayne came down to York for the day, and they as well as the team at the Market Street shop met plenty of our customers and got to chat to them. As you can see above, Andy was handing out several samples including biscuits to those that came out for the day and balloons for our younger customers. He introduced a few of our most popular products, including the old favourites, as well as the latest range of ready meals, jams and preserves, puddings and frozen…
Every year, staff, friends and family at Thomas the Baker make a big effort to put something back into the community that supports us by raising money for charity. In the past, I’ve taken part in sponsored walks (one of which we got very lost on and managed to walk an extra 2 or 3 miles!). But this year there has been a massive push and we’ve managed to raise a total of £9500 for the Martin House Hospice charity which provides care for terminally ill children. This has come from various places as well as the usual annual sponsored walk: every shop has a collection box, and this year even saw the Manager of our Malton shop, Emma Divine-Hard, and Claire Pickering, from the bakery head office, take on the challenge of a tandem parachute jump and raise more than £1300 between them alone all in the name of charity. The money raised has already gone towards a circus…
